Sunday Notes

One Sunday a month, I'll post a short blog with follow-up social media posts with the intent to encourage Latter-day Saints to recognize their self-worth and their worth to the Lord. This page is a collection of those posts along with other thoughts, tips, and processes to help us create that little piece of zion within ourselves.

Many years ago, during a morning run in the Ozark Mountains, I came across a field of Queen Anne’s Lace. Their delicate heads bobbing in the late spring morning. I stopped and cupped one of the blossoms in my hand. I had never spent much time examining these flowers. They’re often considered an everyday weed. But when I stopped to look at one—I mean really examine it, I found uncommon beauty. Small white lacy flowers formed a tight circle around a velvety royal purple center.

Queen Anne’s Lace are everywhere. They can be found along the roadsides and in the fields and valleys across the United States. Temples are becoming more common, as well. Our highest form of worship, where we dress in spotless white and learn more about our Savior, the very royalty of heaven. As I looked over fields of Queen Anne's Lace, I thought about the promises made long ago of how temples would dot the earth. We're not just witnessing the fulfilling of that promise, we're participating in it whenever we go to the house of the Lord.

Every time I come across this photo in my gallery or I see a Queen Anne’s lace during the summer months, I marvel at how even nature worships its Creator and helps point us toward temple covenants and promises, helping us make Christ the center of all things.

PS--Not all Queen Anne's Lace varieties carry that small group of purple petals.
